MEET UPCOUNTRY FIBER
SERVING FAMILIES & BUSINESSES ACROSS THE BLUE RIDGE
Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative (BREC) and West Carolina Rural Telephone Cooperative (WCTEL) have teamed up to offer high-speed internet service to families and businesses across the Blue Ridge service area under their partnership company Upcountry Fiber. Both Cooperatives are very customer-focused and community-minded. It is our collective mission to provide customers with the best and most reliable service possible.
PROUDLY SERVING 68,000 CUSTOMERS
With nearly 68,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers spread across an 1,800-square-mile footprint, BREC is the fourth-largest cooperative in South Carolina. It provides electricity to Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, and Pickens counties, along with a small sliver of Spartanburg County. BREC is very well known for their dependability and community support in the Blue Ridge area.
A PROVEN HISTORY OF NEARLY 70 YEARS IN THE TELECOM INDUSTRY
WCTEL has been in the telecommunications industry since 1952 providing service to Abbeville and McCormick Counties and the Starr and Iva areas of Anderson County in South Carolina. In 2015, they began to branch out from their traditional service area under their partnership company, WCFIBER. WCFIBER is now providing service to parts of Columbia County, GA, Greenwood County, SC, and the city of Newberry, SC. WCTEL's expertise ensures that most residents in BREC's service area will have access to cutting edge fiber services including symmetrical gigabit internet, HD TV, and voice services once this project is complete.
BREC recognized that many of its customers were unable to access adequate broadband service in their service area. After a short discussion with WCTEL, they were certain that fiber internet service delivered by WCTEL would provide their customers with not only adequate broadband service, but the best service available today across the nation.
With the support of both BREC & WCTEL, Upcountry Fiber is truly providing a stronger connection to the residents in Upstate South Carolina.
